Distortion

The space on screen doesn't exist anywhere, but it doesn't feel unfamiliar either. A point where hallway and room blur together. Light that seems to be there and not there at once. Inspired by the film The Backrooms, this piece starts from the idea that memory isn't a fixed archive, but something constantly distorted and rebuilt.


A landscape that feels nostalgic despite being seen for the first time. A place that never existed, yet seems to belong somewhere in memory. What this piece is reconstructing isn't reality. It's the surface of a distorted memory.


Made by @heatherlim.studio , Heather Lim. She studied industrial design at KAIST, and currently works as a UX designer and researcher while also building a career as an AI artist. She's presented workshop papers on image generation models at NeurIPS and ICML, published a bestselling guide to Midjourney in 2024, and in 2023 created the AI-made cover for @homelivingkorea, one of Korea's leading lifestyle magazines. She now teaches at Ewha Womans University.
